Master’s Scholarship

The Yousriya Loza-Sawiris Scholarship, a transformative study University of Minnesota opportunity, invites Egyptian students to pursue a master’s in development Practice (MDP) at the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, a top 10 global institution (QS World University Rankings 2025) within the University of Minnesota, founded in 1851 in Minneapolis. Launched in 2015 by the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD), a leading Egyptian nonprofit, this scholarship empowers scholars to address global challenges like poverty, climate change, health equity, and human rights through a transformative academic odyssey. As a global development trailblazer, the program equips students for leadership roles in sustainable development.

Administered by Newton Education Services, a trusted partner since 2015, the Yousriya Loza-Sawiris Scholarship supports the two-year MDP program, comprising 50 credits and an 8–10-week summer field experience in areas like community development or policy analysis. Scholars engage in interdisciplinary coursework covering Economics, Public Policy, Environmental Sustainability, Global Health, and Social Innovation. Economics students analyze development frameworks, while Public Policy scholars design equity-focused interventions. Environmental Sustainability candidates tackle climate resilience, contributing to global knowledge. With a 90% employability rate within six months, alumni excel as development consultants, policy advisors, or NGO leaders, supported by networks like the Humphrey Alumni Association and partnerships with UNDP, World Bank, and Egyptian ministries.

The Yousriya Loza-Sawiris Scholarship fosters global development networking. Scholars collaborate with peers, faculty, and industry experts from over 50 countries, participating in leadership seminars, policy workshops, and community engagement projects. The Humphrey School’s inclusive framework aligns with SFSD’s mission to empower underrepresented communities. Cultural events, like Minneapolis’s Art-A-Whirl or Twin Cities Pride, and student-led initiatives, such as Humphrey Policy Forums, enrich the diverse academic experience, with 10% of scholars launching development-focused initiatives in Egypt post-graduation.

Studying in Minneapolis, scholars embark on a transformative academic odyssey. They explore landmarks like Minnehaha Falls, Walker Art Center, or Mall of America, immersing in America’s cultural vibrancy. Events like Minnesota State Fair, Twin Cities Marathon, or Hmong New Year deepen engagement. The Humphrey School’s Cedar-Riverside campus, with advanced research labs, policy centers, and student hubs, supports a global academic immersion, enhanced by connectivity to Cairo, Nairobi, and Geneva. Minneapolis’s safe, inclusive environment (U.S. News Best Cities 2025) complements academic pursuits.
