The program began in the U.S. in 2006, expanded to Europe in 2008, and launched in Japan in 2015 at both Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo.
The primary goal of this summer internship program is to support undergraduate students from around the world who are interested in a career in biology. It provides these students with an eight-week research experience in biomedical science, allowing them to connect with leading faculty and gain hands-on research skills with highly dedicated professors and researchers across several graduate schools.

UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program in Japan:
•Free accommodation.
•Students will receive a stipend of 270,000 JPY.
•Economy-class airfare to Tokyo, or round-trip train tickets for domestic students, will be covered
for program participants.

Eligibility Criteria of the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program:
•To apply for the UTokyo internship, candidates must be undergraduate students from universities or colleges that offer bachelor’s degrees, mainly from the Asia region.
•Applicants must have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies by the time the program starts.
•They should not be graduating before the program begins and must have at least one semester or quarter of study left after the program ends.
•Candidates need a strong academic record and an interest in pursuing a research degree, like a Ph.D., in the future.
•English language skills are required. Non-native English speakers or those whose first language
is not English or who’s medium of instruction is not English need to provide test scores, with minimum scores as follows:
•TOEFL iBT: 72
•IELTS: 5.5 overall band
•Cambridge English FCE
•TOEIC: 1095 total (785 for L&R and 310 for S&W)
