Master’s Scholarship

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship, a transformative study in Hungary initiative, invites international students to pursue undergraduate, Master’s, PhD, one-tier Master’s, and non-degree programs at 31 premier Hungarian institutions, including University of Debrecen (founded 1538), Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), and University of Pécs. Launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government, this international scholarships Europe program fosters global academic pioneers across fields like engineering, computer science, health sciences, economics, natural sciences, business law, and arts. Scholars embark on a transformative educational journey, engaging in world-class research to drive global development and cross-cultural collaboration.

Administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and coordinated by the Tempus Public Foundation, the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship offers over 800 English-taught programs, with options in Hungarian and other languages, supported by a one-year Hungarian language preparatory course. Scholars engage in cutting-edge research at facilities like ELTE’s Quantum Computing Lab or MATE’s AgriTech Innovation Hub, collaborating with expert faculty on challenges like sustainable energy, digital transformation, and global health, with 85% of alumni advancing to professional leadership roles post-graduation. The program, based on bilateral agreements with over 94 sending partners across five continents, welcomed 60,000+ applicants in 2024, awarding 5,000+ scholarships.

The scholarship champions global professional networks. Scholars join the Stipendium Hungaricum alumni community, connecting with peers, mentors, and industry leaders through conferences, workshops, and events like Budapest Innovation Summit, Debrecen Science Festival, and Pécs Cultural Week. This inclusive framework supports diverse perspectives, with 50% of scholars from underrepresented regions. Campus activities, such as Hungarian cultural immersions, Budapest AI Hackathons, or Szeged Sustainability Challenges, enrich the research-driven experience, with 70% forming international professional ties. Hungary’s partnerships with Asian, African, and European institutions enhance cross-border research opportunities.

Studying in Hungary, scholars explore UNESCO sites like Budapest’s Danube Banks, Hortobágy National Park, or Tokaj Wine Region, immersing in Central European vibrancy. Events like Sziget Festival, Budapest Spring Festival, or Debrecen Flower Carnival deepen engagement. Hungarian campuses, with modern labs, digital libraries, and cultural hubs, support global academic excellence, with connectivity to Vienna, Prague, and Zagreb. Hungary’s safe, affordable cities (QS Best Student Cities 2025) complement academic pursuits, ideal for degree studies.

Candidates must apply for a study program, submit an online application with a motivation letter and academic records, and secure nomination from their Sending Partner (e.g., Ministry of Education or Hungarian Embassy). Join a global cohort to champion academic innovation, embrace Hungarian cultural heritage, and redefine career horizons with the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship!
