The Bristol Short Story Prize UK is an annual International Writing Competition open to all published and unpublished, UK and non-UK based writers. They publish an annual anthology of the winning stories as well as presenting cash prizes. 20 stories will be shortlisted and published in Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology Volume 13 by Tangent BooksThe winner and 2 runners up will be selected from the shortlist and announced at an awards ceremony which will be held in Bristol in October.

The Bristol Short Story Prize is an international writing competition based in Bristol, UK, which aims to publish great short stories and promote the stories and writers as much as possible.  Discovering previously unpublished writers is central to our aims and we are absolutely committed to celebrating the short story genre and making it accessible and available to as wide an audience as we can.

The Bristol Short Story Prize has been won by Australian writer Cameron Stewart for his story, Black Snow. 2nd prize went to Cherise Saywell and 3rd prize was awarded to S. Bhattacharya-Woodward. The inaugural Sansom Award for Bristol writers were won by Ali Bacon.

•1st prize is £1,000, 2nd prize is £500, the 3rd prize is £250.
•17 further prizes of £100 will be presented to the remaining shortlisted writers.
•All shortlisted writers will receive 2 free copies of the anthology. Prizes will be sent to any writer
on the shortlist who is unable to attend the awards ceremony.
•The Sansom Award, in recognition of the contribution to Bristol publishing of John and Angela
•Sansom at Redcliffe Press will be presented to the highest placed story by a Bristol writer.
•The Sansom Award winner will receive £100, and their story published in Bristol 24/7 magazine.

BSSP Aims:

•To publish a brilliant short story anthology every year full of fresh and original stories, and to get it stocked in as many bookshops as possible. This includes high street chains, independent shops, and online booksellers.
•To inspire and encourage writers.
•To discover and promote previously unpublished writers.
•To provide an opportunity for writers to get published.
•To share our enthusiasm for short stories in as many ways and with as many people as possible.
•To establish Bristol as a short story center.
•To raise the profile, support and raise funds for Bristol Review of Books magazine. (BROB magazine is not being published at the moment, but we hope to be part of its return to publication at some stage in the future.)

•The Bristol Short Story Prize is open to all published and unpublished writers. There is no geographical restriction on entry – the Bristol Short Story Prize is open to everyone.
