Master’s Scholarship

The Erasmus Mundus EMGS Scholarship, a transformative Global Studies Master’s initiative, invites international students to pursue a two-year Erasmus Mundus Joint master’s degree (EMJMD) offered by five prestigious European universities: Leipzig University (Germany, coordinating institution), University of Vienna (Austria), University of Wrocław (Poland), Roskilde University (Denmark), and Ghent University (Belgium). Partnered with global institutions like Jawaharlal Nehru University (India), Fudan University (China), and University of Otago (New Zealand), this study in Europe program fosters global policy innovators in disciplines like global history, international relations, cultural studies, economics, and sociology. Scholars embark on a transnational academic journey, analyzing globalization through interdisciplinary lenses at top-tier institutions.

The Erasmus Mundus EMGS Scholarship spans four semesters, structured to deepen expertise in global phenomena. The first semester introduces foundational global studies concepts at one European partner university. The second and third semesters offer specialized courses on global challenges, such as climate governance, transregional migration, and economic interdependence, with students studying at a second European university or a non-European partner like Dalhousie University (Canada) or Stellenbosch University (South Africa). The fourth semester focuses on an independent master’s thesis, supported by thesis seminars and a pre-thesis workshop were scholars present research proposals, with 70% of graduates publishing in peer-reviewed journals or securing policy roles.

The program champions global academic networks. Scholars participate in international summer and winter schools, hosted annually by the EMGS Consortium, featuring workshops, lectures, and networking events with faculty and peers from 20+ countries. These events, alongside conferences like Recent Globe in Leipzig or Ghent Centre for Global Studies seminars, foster cross-cultural collaboration, with 60% of alumni forming international professional ties. The mobility program mandates study at two European universities and offers an optional semester at non-European partners, enhancing transregional perspectives on issues like peace and security (via Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia) or global economics (via Macquarie University, Australia).

Studying across Europe, scholars explore cultural hubs like Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace, Leipzig’s St. Thomas Church, or **Wrocław with connectivity to Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam. Europe’s dynamic, student-friendly environment (QS Best Student Cities 2025) complements academic pursuits, ideal for master’s studies.

Candidates must secure admission and submit an online application, including a statement of purpose and academic records. Join a global cohort to champion academic innovation, embrace European cultural diversity, and redefine career horizons with the Erasmus Mundus EMGS Scholarship!
