The BETD Media Fellowship 2026, a premier fully funded journalism immersion, invites global energy storytellers to engage in a Berlin energy transition hub at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) in Berlin, Germany. This one-week transformative program with the core conference on empowers journalists, bloggers, influencers, and podcasters to report on the global energy transition, renewable energy innovations, and energy efficiency strategies. Hosted by the German Federal Foreign Office, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE e.V.), the fellowship has trained 100+ fellows from 50+ countries since 2018, with a €1 million investment, receiving 2,000+ applications. Fellows immerse in Berlin’s dynamic energy ecosystem, advancing cross-global energy synergy.

The Berlin energy transition hub equips fellows to amplify the Paris Climate Agreement’s goals, covering topics like solar photovoltaics, wind energy, green hydrogen, smart grids, and carbon-neutral policies, with 92% reporting enhanced reporting skills (GIZ Report, 2024). The program features exclusive press briefings, policy roundtables, site visits to renewable energy facilities, and digital storytelling workshops, with fellows producing 300+ media outputs annually, shared via BETD’s global platform. A virtual pre-meeting introduces conference agendas and energy journalism trends. Fellows engage with high-level stakeholders from politics, science, industry, and civil society, including IRENA, IEA, and UN Climate Envoys, at events like BETD’s Empowerment Hour or SET Award Ceremony.

Fellows participate in Global Energy Dialogues, virtual media forums, and in-person networking summits, connecting with peers from 40+ countries. The Berlin energy odyssey includes Potsdamer Platz innovation tours, Spree River sustainability walks, Mitte media meetups, Charlottenburg cultural immersions, and Tempelhof renewable energy site visits, fostering global journalism networks. Partnerships with German Solar Association (BSW), German Energy Agency (dena), and International Press Institute provide access to global energy ecosystems. Fellows contribute to international energy conferences, advancing cross-global climate goals. Programs’ Inclusive Energy Journalism Initiatives host 100+ events annually, promoting diversity.

Hosted in Berlin, a global energy capital, the fellowship offers access to 200,000+ digital resources via energy dialogue. berlin, including IRENA reports, IEA datasets, and Climate Analytics, to fuel journalistic excellence. Since 2020, 80+ alumni have published in outlets like The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and Reuters, with 87% sustaining energy reporting careers. Plans to deepen ties with African Energy Network, Asia-Pacific Climate Media Hub, and Latin American Press Alliance aim to grow 10,000+ collaborations. Conducted in English, with German culture workshops, the program ensures accessibility. The BETD Framework aligns with UN SDGs, emphasizing clean energy and climate action.

Eligibility Criteria of the BETD Media Fellowship in Germany:

1. Every media journalist can apply.

2. No age restriction.

3. No religious, social, economic, or other constraints.

4. English fluency is required.

5. Applicants must pay a USD 19 registration fee.

Documents required for the BETD Fellowship:

1. Recommendation letter (if available).

2. Certificate of student status/Certificate of Academic degree.

3. Academic transcript (if required).

4. Proof of Language proficiency (English)/ Medium of Instruction (English).

5. CV (if required).

6. Additional Documents for Special Circumstances.

7. Copy of Valid Passport (Photo and Information Page).

8. Passport Size Photocopy (Professional photo with White Background and size less than 2 MB).
