The National Taiwan Library Fellowship 2026, a premier fully funded Taiwan Studies research program, invites scholarly trailblazers to engage in a global academic heritage hub at the National Taiwan Library (NTL) in Taipei, Taiwan. This 3–6-month program immerses 1–3 international fellows from 50+ countries in a cultural research nexus. Since 2014, NTL, Taiwan’s oldest public library founded in 1914, has hosted 100+ scholars, leveraging its 210,000+ historical items from the Japanese colonial era (1895–1945) to advance Taiwan Studies, Sinology, and East Asian Studies, with a NTD 10 million research budget. Fellows join a multicultural cohort, fostering cross-cultural academic exchange.

The global academic heritage hub program embeds fellows in independent research projects within humanities and social sciences, focusing on Taiwanese heritage, Southeast Asian culture, or Sinological manuscripts. Fellows explore topics like Taiwan’s democratization, Hokkien literature, or cross-strait cultural dynamics, using resources like ancient texts, digital archives, and oracle bone inscriptions, with 90% reporting deepened research insights (NTL Report, 2024). The program features biweekly academic seminars, manuscript analysis workshops, field visits, and collaboration with experts from Academia Sinica and National Taiwan University, with fellows contributing to 10+ academic outputs annually.

Fellows engage in Global Academic Dialogues, virtual research symposia, and cultural exchange events, connecting with peers from Asia, Europe, Americas, and beyond. Taiwanese heritage odyssey includes Taipei’s National Palace Museum tours, Lungshan Temple visits, virtual cultural webinars, or fieldwork in Tainan’s historical sites, with 85% reporting enriched cultural perspectives. Partnerships with SOAS London, UC San Diego, and Jagiellonian University offer insights into global Taiwan Studies ecosystems. Fellows present findings at a closing research colloquium, advancing cultural research nexus goals. The NTL Diversity Initiative hosts 30+ events annually, promoting inclusivity.

Hosted in Taipei’s Zhonghe District, NTL’s state-of-the-art facilities, including modern research labs and 350,000+ digital resources, empower scholarly excellence. Since 2014, 150+ fellows have shaped Taiwan’s academic landscape, with 80% publishing in top journals. Plans to expand ties with Harvard Yenching Institute, Kyoto University, and ASEAN research hubs aim to grow 1,000+ collaborations. The English-medium program, with Mandarin workshops, ensures accessibility. The NTL Taiwan Studies Framework aligns research with global cultural preservation.

Applicants submit through NTL’s portal and are notified for selections. Join NTL’s scholarly trailblazers to ignite fully funded Taiwan Studies research, forge global networks, and shape a transformative future with National Taiwan Library Fellowship 2026!
