The Stipendium Hungaricum, a transformative study in Hungary initiative, invites international students to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral degrees at the University of Pécs, Hungary’s oldest university, founded in 1367. Launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government under its Eastern and Southern Opening policy, this University of Pécs scholarship, managed by the Tempus Public Foundation, fosters global academic trailblazers across fields like business administration, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, arts, music, humanities, and social sciences. Scholars embark on a transformative Hungarian education, engaging in cutting-edge research to drive global innovation.
The Stipendium Hungaricum supports over 100 English- and German-taught programs at Pécs, attracting 5,000+ students from 130+ countries annually. Scholars access world-class facilities like the Pécs Medical Simulation Center or Faculty of Music’s Art Innovation Lab, collaborating with expert faculty on topics such as sustainable development, digital health, and cultural heritage, with 90% of alumni securing global career roles or PhD positions. The program, engaging 94+ sending partners, promotes cultural exchange and market-relevant skills, positioning Hungary as a European education hub (QS World University Rankings 2025: Pécs #651–700).
The scholarship champions global professional networks. Scholars join the Stipendium Hungaricum Alumni Network, connecting with peers, mentors, and industry leaders through seminars, career fairs, and events like Budapest Innovation Summit, Pécs Cultural Forum, or Szeged Research Symposium. This inclusive framework supports diverse perspectives, with 70% of scholars from non-European regions. Campus activities, such as music festivals, sustainability hackathons, or Pécs Art Week, enrich the research-driven experience, with 80% forming international professional ties. Hungary’s partnerships with African, Asian, and Latin American institutions enhance cross-border research opportunities.
Studying in Pécs, scholars explore landmarks like Pécs Cathedral, Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, or Mecsek Hills, immersing in Hungarian cultural vibrancy. Events like Pécs Light Festival, Budapest Christmas Market, or Sziget Festival deepen engagement. The University of Pécs, ranked among Europe’s greenest (UI GreenMetric 2024), offers advanced labs, digital libraries, and innovation hubs, with connectivity to Vienna, Zagreb, and Bratislava. Pécs’ safe, affordable student city (The Campus Advisor 2024: #14 in Europe) complements academic pursuits, ideal for degree studies.
Candidates must apply through the Tempus Public Foundation’s online system, selecting University of Pécs as their first priority and up to two study programs.
