The EMMIR Scholarship, a premier study migration Europe initiative, empowers international students to pursue a two-year European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR), a 120 ECTS program. Co-funded by the EU’s Erasmus+ Programme, this EMMIR master’s program is delivered by a consortium of nine partner institutions across Europe, Africa, and Asia, including University of Oldenburg (UOL) in Germany, University of Stavanger (UIS) in Norway, WITS University in South Africa, and University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. As a global migration trailblazer, EMMIR fosters intercultural expertise, equipping scholars with skills in migration theories, intercultural policies, human rights, and global mobility, driving a transcontinental academic odyssey to address migration challenges.
The EMMIR master’s programs offer an English-taught curriculum blending theoretical training, methodological skills, and fieldwork across African, Asian, and European contexts. Semester 1 (30 ECTS) at UOL, Oldenburg, Germany, introduces migration frameworks and intercultural competencies, utilizing migration research archives. Semester 2 (30 ECTS) at UIS, Stavanger, Norway, explores comparative migration dynamics and policy analysis, leveraging intercultural labs. Semester 3 (30 ECTS) features a project-based internship at partner sites in Uganda, South Africa, Slovenia, India, or Czechia, offering hands-on experience with organizations like UNHCR or IOM. Semester 4 (30 ECTS) focuses on a master’s thesis, with flexible mobility at any partner university, such as Charles University in Czechia, earning a joint degree. With an 85% employability rate within six months, graduates excel in academia, NGOs, or international organizations.
The EMMIR Scholarship emphasizes transcontinental migration networking. The mobility scheme ensures study in Germany, Norway, and a third country, fostering cross-cultural collaboration. Annual EMMIR Winter School, study trips, and workshops enhance skills in migration governance and research methods. Partnerships with 40 associate organizations provide real-world exposure, with 10% of graduates launching migration-focused initiatives, aligning with EU human rights goals. Scholars access advanced resources, ensuring a career-focused migration education.
Studying in Oldenburg, Stavanger, Ljubljana, or Johannesburg, scholars experience a transcontinental academic odyssey. They explore Oldenburg’s historic market, Stavanger’s fjords, Ljubljana’s Triple Bridge, or South Africa’s Apartheid Museum, engaging with diverse heritages. Events like Norway’s Constitution Day, South Africa’s Freedom Day, or Slovenia’s Prešeren Day enrich cultural engagement. Campuses with digital archives and student societies support a global learning immersion, enhanced by connectivity to Berlin and Oslo.
